World Cup, Time to Consider Monitors

Referees are human and there will be no monitors to review plays. These were the words of FIFA President Blatter in December 2009.

Recently, at the World Cup, Blatter had to apologize to Mexico and England for poor calls made by his referees. He even mentioned the possibility of reviewing the technology issue, but fell far short of saying that the technology will be used in the future.

As a soocer fan, I strongly suggest that President Blatter take advantage of the available technology and push the other stubborn members of FIFA to give it a try by approving its use. I can’t understand why an organization is willing to accept such controversy that can be avoided, just by being stupidly stubborn.

Get with it, use the technology, come into the 21st century like the other sport teams and do the right thing. I MAKE THE CALL.

World Cup Officiating, or lack of it.

The whole world saw England kick the goal. That is, everyone but the referee.

This 2010 World Cup has seen the worst officiating in modern times.

Blunder after blunder has been made by the officiating crews. It seems as if no country in this World Cup was happy with the officiating.

FIFA appears to be satisfied with what went on an offers no legitimate reason to even consider reviewing the goal.

This is absolutely wrong, and something should be done about it.

I don’t know what the outcome of the England vs. Germany match would have been if the call was reversed, but I do know that it took the fight out of England who were demoralized by the call.

Looking ahead to 2014, something must be in place to take care of calls such as the ones we saw against the USA and Germany.

FIFA needs to come into the 21st century and use the technology to review disputed goals in real time. The technology is there, why not use it?

Should this type of officiating continue, many countries participating in World Cup Matches will sooner or later boycott both the games and FIFA. I MAKE THE CALL.

World Cup, US Advances to the sweet 16

From feuding with Beckham, to splitting with his wife Bianca, to falling flat on his face as the designated captain in the 2006 World Cup in Germany, to suddenly becoming the savior of US Soccer, Landon Donovan scored the only goal of the match in the 91st minute.

Is that magic or what?

The US is in the sweet 16 and only needs to win 3 more matches to end up in the finals. Can they do it? They certainly can. They have the energy and intestinal fortitude to win on Saturday against Ghana. No, it won’t be easy, but it can be done. The US Team will bring its’ A game to the pitch on Saturday and will defeat Ghana by a score of 2-1 barring any unusual officiating. I MAKE THE CALL.

World Cup, US, now or never

Coach Bradley, you had better become General Omar Bradley if your team is going to advance and make the sweet 16 in South Africa.

On paper, Algeria should be a walk over for the US with a 0-0-2 record.

History has not been good to the US Teams in the last 60 years with only 3 wins in World Cup matches.

The US has played to 2 draws thus far, but a win is desperately needed for them to advance. If they fail to get a win on Wednesday, getting to Brazil in 2014 will be a long and hard road over the next 4 years. I MAKE THE CALL.
